Pendrive on Linux can be unstable/unusable with 2 main reasons:
1. There is FS „burned” on it, you can't add files now
2. General Linux errors (but, several errors are GONE NOW with the some programming/bash scripting art.
ADATA I/O error on file tree write (pacstrap), autoremounting read-only, freezing command-line tools.
Let's prepare for OTHER (Kingston...), USB disks... maybe MRW (Mount Rainer?) But the compact disc opticals aren't so physically persistent, IMO. The layer of CD/DVD-RW not 1000 write cycles!!! Absolutely, NOT rewritable so much!!! Several, max – from my own experience.
Standard DVDs, CD-R (ROM, also) are better that gray-layered rewritables.

USB built-in into motherboard, don't know if/which Linux supports cards... but ADATA brand is horrible, according to the following:
